D is for Darkness

I was worried about the dark;

Thought the darkness in the country

Might overpower me

Thick and opaque

As a gorge full of oil

But empty as a vacuum.

But when I got here,

I was surprised to find

That the night was gentle,

Filled with moon and stars

Bright enough to expel fear

Dark enough to court with the evening calm.

Now each night

With no curtains in between

My eyes and sky combine

To lighten my path

Softly to sleep.
